Welcome to the Winnetka Post Office Site Community Survey!
Thank you to all who participated in the Post Office Visioning process. More than 1,200 people completed Online Survey #1, and approximately 200 attended the Open Houses in June. There's still time to participate!
Take Online Survey #2 to review the preliminary design concepts presented at the Public Open Houses and share your feedback. The planning team will review all input and report back to Village Council later this fall.
ABOUT THE PROJECT: The former Post Office site holds a highly visible and central position within the Elm Street District, presenting a rare opportunity to shape the area’s future. Now vacant, the site allows the Village to build on previous planning efforts while inviting meaningful community input to re-imagine its potential. To support this work, the Village has engaged Teska Associates to lead a planning and engagement process that will provide the Village Council with a clear, actionable path toward redevelopment.
This planning process started with a community survey and preliminary concept development. Two public meetings were held June 9th and June 15th, 2026. Following those public meetings and this online survey, the project team will refine site concepts and present to Council in the Fall.

BACKGROUND + HISTORY
Over the years, the Village has completed several studies to guide the future of the Post Office site within the West Elm Street District. With the Post Office now vacated from this Village-owned property, the site presents new opportunities while continuing to provide much-needed public parking for the District—an important consideration as planning moves forward.
The upcoming planning process will be a community-wide effort that builds upon the following studies, summaries of which were included in the October 14, 2025 Village Council Study Session materials:
